It was 1936 when Karl and Ethyl Shrode opened their doors on Main Street in the hub of downtown Sarasota. Fine table linens, sterling silver and china took their place amidst exquisite pieces of classic jewelry. Just as important, family pride, quality and an impeccable reputation developed their roots as the company's guiding principles. "I can remember as a boy of seven or eight years of age taking the bus to the store," says Karl Shrode, Jr. "I used to sweep floors and do other odd jobs to help the family business. One could say I learned the family business from the ground up. Everything was on Main Street in those days, and as I recall, Shrode Jewelers was only the second store in town to install air conditioning."

With the passing of Karl senior in 1975, young Karl, then in his 20s, took over operation of the business. To this day, Karl Shrode Jr., a master jeweler himself, preserves the 60+ years of family tradition of integrity and a reputation for quality merchandise to please the most discriminating taste.
